Purdue Mall Fountain

Also known as the “The Class of 1939 Water Sculpture”, the Purdue Mall Fountain is located in the heart of campus on the Purdue Mall, where Purdue students walk around every day on their way to class. The fountain was designed by Robert Youngman and was a gift from the class of 1939. The fountain has four vertical structures in the center, where it can spray up a large jet of water through. It is surrounded by benches so that visitors can take advantage of them to enjoy the fountain. The fountain has neither a fence around it nor a pool to collect the water. Rather, the water drains out through a metal grate set in the ground underneath it.

The fountain’s location in the center of campus makes it a perfect place for people to take pictures after graduation or when people come to visit the campus. On sunny days, you can always see many students studying, napping, talking, or playing on the lawn around the fountain.
