Reviews on the Reading

All four articles focus on some bad aspects Instagram has brought to travelers. Although they all mainly talked about some disadvantages they felt Instagram had brought them as a travel writer, they were actually writing from pretty different perspectives. In Is Instagram Ruining Travel ?, Kristin pointed out the fact that there are so many fake contents on Instagram and how they are affecting people’s values and knowledge. She also brought up the fact that Instagram has already changed the essence of photography which I totally agree with. I also like photography a lot, but I sometimes find that I am taking pictures just to post on social media instead of a real sense of appreciation of the views I am watching.

The Captionfluencers brought up a new trend that has appeared on Instagram which is the long-form caption. Ruth, the writer, shared her thoughts on this new form and provided us with fresh ideas that Instagram can be more than just a platform of sharing pictures. People can start to learn about the background information of the writers and the pictures they are sharing by long-form caption.

Rhiannon, similar to Kristin, expressed her dislike about how the essence of photography has changed on Instagram in Instagrammers are sucking the life and sould out of travel. She thought that people are taking photos when they travel just to record their experience in a more human way. And she also doubts whether people are learning anything when most travel photographs on Instagram start to look like fashion editorials.

Farhad shared his own experience in ‘Overtourism’ Worries Europe. How Much Did Technology Help Get Us There?. He felt like some people are blindly following what others post on Instagram so that there are always too many tourists in popular destinations of traveling. I have some similar thoughts with him cause I also sometimes feel like people are just following what’s popular instead of asking themselves what they really admire. I think the over package issues of photos and stories on Instagram are misleading the users as well and people now just form into the habit of searching online for the so-called best places to go instead of exploring on their own.
